A blackout affected 21 districts in the southern region of the country on Saturday due to a technical fault in the national power grid.
Sources from the West Zone Power Distribution Company Ltd (WZPDCL) reported that the outage began at 5:48pm, with power supply restored by 6:52pm.
Mohammad Haidar Ali, managing director of WZPDCL, said that the blackout was caused by a problem at the national grid in Amin Bazar, Gopalganj district.
The districts impacted by the outage include Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Jashore, Narail, Jhenaidah, Magura, Kushtia, Meherpur, and Chuadanga under Khulna Division; Faridpur, Rajbari, Madaripur, Shariatpur, and Gopalganj under Dhaka Division; and Barishal, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Patuakhali, Barguna, and Bhola under Barishal Division.
According to media reports, the Aminbazar substation has become a vital hub for power transmission across the south-western region, enhancing the reliability of electricity supply. It plays a crucial role in distributing electricity generated by the Rampal and Payra thermal power plants.
