The martyrs’ family members have demanded that the Awami League be tried and banned before the national election for the involvement of the party men in the July mass killing.
They placed the demand from a rally held at Shahbagh intersection in the capital, Dhaka, on Friday, demanding justice for the July, Pilkhana and Shapla Chattar massacres and a ban on Awami League, which is responsible for these gruesome incidents.
Apart from them, Sarjis Alam, chief organiser for the north region of National Citizen Party, Ali Ahsan Junayad, organiser of Up-Bangladesh, Asaduzzaman Fuad, secretary general of Amar Bangladesh and Nurul Islam, secretary general of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, spoke during the rally, echoing their same voices to the demand.
While addressing the rally, Rabiul Awal, brother of martyr Imam Hasan, urged the interim government to put Awami League to justice for its killing spree during the July mass upsurge.
A ban on Awami League and its trial must be done before holding the next general election and it should be the key agenda of the interim government, he said.
Taking part in the rally, Martyred Saim’s mother said her son was killed in Jatrabari area during the mass uprising.
“What was offence of my son? I want justice. I want capital punishment of fascist Sheikh Hasina and a ban on her party Awami League,” she said, urging the government to prevent the recurrence of the party in Bangladesh forever.
