Bangladesh Jamaat‑e‑Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman on Thursday urged the nation to remain united in order to render the July uprising’s success both enduring and significant.
Addressing a mass contact event of Jamaat’s Dhaka North City unit in Ibrahimpur, Mirpur, he said, “We must unite to ensure that this victory is both meaningful and sustainable.”
Shafiqur Rahman also appealed for collective effort in securing the country’s freedom and welfare. He affirmed that Jamaat remains steadfast in its long‑term campaign for the nation’s liberty and prosperity, declaring,
“We are determined to establish a society founded on justice and fairness.”
He went on, “We love our country, our land and our people. The welfare and freedom of the people lie at the heart of Jamaat’s politics. As the finest of all creations, it is our duty to instil discipline at every level – individual, familial, societal and state.”
The Jamaat leader also called upon supporters to be prepared to make the utmost sacrifices in defence of Islam.
Turning to the fallen Awami League government, he accused it of unleashing unchecked oppression and torture upon the populace.
“Rather than confronting political adversaries through democratic and ideological means, they resorted to murder, terrorism, lawlessness, imprisonment, oppression and assassination,” he asserted.
Shafiqur Rahman observed that the deposed autocrats once believed their misrule impervious to challenge.
“But Allah aided us, and the once firmly entrenched throne of tyranny has been toppled.”
Those accompanying Shafiqur Rahman included Jamaat leaders Mohammad Selim Uddin, Lashkar Mohammad Taslim, Mahfuzur Rahman and Fakhruddin Manik.
