The second independence is for those repressed by the defeated Awami League during its 15 years of misrule, said Nahid Islam, chief of the newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP), on Thursday.
“The 24th is the 2nd independence for those oppressed by Awami League during its 15 years of misrule, not for those who indulged in a looting spree during the same period,” Nahid said.
While addressing a programme in Dhaka this noon, he urged the incumbent government to publish a list of those killed during the movement against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh to mark the country’s golden jubilee in 2021.
Citing misdeeds of the autocrat Awami League, Nahid said that the government must ensure trail of the autocratic ruler.
Regarding his party’s next course of action, he said he would start pressuring the government to implement reforms and hold the Constituent Assembly election.
About Bangladesh-India relations, Nahid, a key leader of the Student Against Discrimination movement, said ties with the neighboring country must be based on equity and mutual understanding.
