Govt orders action against corrupt public servants

Staff Reporter:

The government has directed the authorities concerned to take departmental action against government officials who are widely perceived as corrupt based on intelligence reports.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued the directive on March 20 through a letter addressed to all secretaries, director generals, executive directors, managing directors, government office heads, divi-sional commissioners and deputy commissioners.
To provide recommendations on the recruitment, transfer and disciplinary measures concerning division-al commissioners, deputy commissioners, joint secretaries, and higher-level officials, the government formed the Public Administration Affairs Committee on January 8, with Economic Adviser Dr. Sale-huddin Ahmed as its chairman.
Following the decision of the committee’s second meeting on February 20, the Ministry of Public Ad-ministration issued the directive.
The letter states that departmental action should be taken against officials working in ministries, divi-sions, and subordinate offices who are widely perceived as corrupt by the public, based on intelligence reports.
