A BSEC security personnel has filed a lawsuit against 16 officials of the securities regulator for confining Chairman Khondoker Rashed Maqsood and three commissioners to their office for at least four hours on Wednesday.
Khondoker Rashed Maqsood’s Gunman Ashikur Rahman filed the lawsuit with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on Thursday, he told reporters.
On Wednesday, a number of officials and staff members of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) staged a demonstration against Khondoker Rashed for sending ex-executive director Saifur Rahman into forced retirement. At one point, the agitators besieged the BSEC chief and three commissioners to their office.
Later, a team of Bangladesh Army rescued the besieged officials.
The following morning, BSEC chief Khondoker Rashed and three commissioners explained their case in a meeting with the finance adviser, Economic Relations Division secretary and other key government officials. Later, in the afternoon, a strong team of law enforcers escorted the BSEC chief and three commissioners to their office.
However, on Thursday, BSEC activities remained largely suspended as most employees observed work abstention demanding resignation of the chairman and the commissioners for failure to meet their demands.
Afterwards, the chairman’s gunman filed the case.
