Staff Reporter:
A group of women demonstrated in front of the national parliament on Friday afternoon protesting against a recent surge in gender-based violence across the country.
The protesters called on the Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury to resign for his consistent failure to ensure security for women.
They also categorically criticised the government for failing to ensure law and order, calling on policymakers to start functioning as responsible governance practitioners. Their other demands include holding law enforcement agencies accountable, media outlets stopping spread of misinformation and exemplary actions against cyber bullying.
Failure to act over the past few months has further emboldened criminals to commit rapes, abuse, lynching and cyber bullying, the demonstrators alleged.
