Court freezes 39 bank accounts of ex-minister Saifuzzaman

Staff Reporter:

A Dhaka court yesterday ordered to freeze 39 bank accounts with Taka 5.26 crore of former land minis-ter Saifuzzaman Chowdhury (Javed) over graft allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, accepting a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The anti-graft body in its plea said the ACC has already formed a team to probe allegations of money laundering against the former minister. During their investigation, it was learned that the accused may try to hand over his movable properties and for the sake of justice, his bank accounts should be frozen.
On October 7, 2024, the court imposed a travel ban on Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and his wife Rukmila Zaman. Another court ordered to attach the immovable properties owned by Chowdhury and his family on October 17.
