The newly formed Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad announced its full central convening committee on Thursday evening, listing 205 members.
The new student organisation’s Central Convener Abu Baker Mazumder announced the committee at a press conference in front of Dhaka University’s Madhur Canteen on Thursday afternoon.
He stated that although Rifat Rashid was announced as the senior joint member secretary of the BDCS, he has resigned from his position, citing personal reasons.
He also said that the maximum age limit for central unit leadership is 28, and no one above this age will be allowed to hold a leadership position.
The committee has announced Abu Baker Mazumder as the central convener, Zahid Ahsan as the member secretary, Tahmid Al Muddassir Chowdhury as the chief organiser, and Ashrefa Khatun as the spokesperson.
Besides, Touhid Mohammad Siam and Nurul Gani Sagir have been appointed as joint conveners.
Abdul Kader has been appointed as convener, Liman Mahmud Hasan as senior joint convener, Mahir Alam as member secretary, Al Amin Sarkar as senior joint member secretary, Hasib Al Islam as chief organiser, and Rafia Rehnuma Hridi as spokesperson of the Dhaka University unit of BDSC.
The committee has also announced the names of Khan Talat Mohammad Rafi from Chittagong University, Jubayer Hossen from Dhaka College, Muhammad Abdul Karim Nur Nabi from Jagannath University, Mehedi Sajib and Naima Akter Rita from Rajshahi University, and Farabj Zisan from North South University.
When asked about yesterday’s incident, the BDCS central convener remarked that it was an unexpected chaos caused by a misunderstanding.
He said, “It was not possible to publish the full central executive committee yesterday due to the tense situation.”
Apologising for the incident, he said, “A group of students tried to create a narrative that students from private universities were being excluded or deprived. But that was not the reality; in fact, 30-35 students from private universities have been included in the full committee. Without knowing the truth, they started shouting slogans and attempted to hinder the announcement of the committee.”
He mentioned that organisational action would be taken against those involved in the undesirable incident after a thorough investigation.
Expressing anguish, he said that intentional videos were spread on social media to defame our organisation, leading to misunderstandings among students across the country.
Rifat Rashid, who was accused of creating scuffles during the launch of the new student organisation, has resigned from his position.
He confirmed his resignation through a Facebook post on Thursday evening.
Additionally, Abu Baker Mazumder also confirmed the resignation to the Daily Sun.
He said that a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the incidents that occurred during the inauguration ceremony of the Bangladesh Democratic Students’ Union.
