Staff Reporter:
Like the previous years, a one-minute symbolic blackout will be observed across the country on March 25, the Genocide Day.
The blackout will take place from 10:30 PM to 10:31 PM, except for emergency installations, in re-membrance of the first hour of the night.
Key performance indicators (KPIs) and emergency establishments will be exempt from this observance.
Last year, the blackout was held from 11:00 PM to 11:01 PM.
This decision was made at an inter-ministerial meeting on the national program for observing Genocide Day on March 25 and Independence and National Day on March 26.
Liberation War Affairs Adviser Farooq E Azam chaired the meeting, according to the meeting minutes.
It was also noted that the blackout will not apply to foreign missions in Bangladesh.
On the night of March 25, 1971, the Pakistani military carried out a brutal operation, “Operation Searchlight,” in Dhaka.
The Pakistani occupation forces carried out mass killings in the darkness of the night particularly target-ing the students, teachers, and staff at Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University.
Besides, the meeting decided that no lighting displays will be allowed in important government, semi-government, autonomous, or private buildings on the night of March 25.
It was decided in the meeting that unlike previous years, there will be no arms exhibition from March 23 to 31.
