Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued a strong demand for the release of party leader ATM Azharul Islam by 25 February.
Speaking at a public meeting organised by the Laxmipur district unit of Jamaat-e-Islami at the Adarsha Samad Government High School ground today, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “If the interim government fails to release him, then it must be prepared to imprison 30 million Jamaat leaders and workers.”
He said, “In the past, people were deceived with false promises in the name of establishing Sonar Bangla. We will not engage in the kind of politics that compels leaders to flee the country like fascists.”
He noted that Bangladesh has undergone significant changes over the past 54 years, witnessing bloodshed and multiple political regimes. “You have heard about many ideologies, but you have yet to see the rule of Islamic ideology, which represents the majority,” he said.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman insisted that only the Quran could ensure the true establishment of Sonar Bangla. “All other experiments have failed. Insha Allah, Bangladesh will be governed based on the Quran,” he added.
Referring to the sacrifices made by youth and students in the July movement, he said, “The country has achieved a second independence through their blood.”
“We aspire to see Bangladesh become a humanitarian state, where the people will attain true freedom through the implementation of Allah’s law,” he said.
The meeting was presided over by District Jamaat Amir Master Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan and attended by several party leaders, including district secretary Faruk Hossain Nurnabi, assistant secretary advocate Mohsin Kabir Murad, Jamaat’s assistant secretary general ATM Masum, and central leaders Mubarak Hossain, Kazi Din Mohammad, Shahjahan Chowdhury, Dr. Rezaul Karim, and Advocate Atiqur Rahman.
