Police have filed two separate cases over the recovery of illegal firearms and the killing of two suspected youth criminals during a raid by law enforcers past midnight on Thursday.
Five others of a gang were arrested during the raid, and a Dhaka court has put each on two-day remand.
Police and the army sources claimed, around 12am Thursday, criminals shot at law enforcers from the roof of a tin-made house in Chad Uddyan area of Mohammadpur. As the law enforcers returned fire, two died on the spot.
The joint forces later raided the house, arresting five with weapons, and recovering the body of two from the roof. The rest of the gang managed to flee.
Later, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court sent the five arrestees to prison. They allegedly had firearms and sharp local weapons in their possession during the arrest.
The incident sparked social media speculation that the two alleged criminals were victims of “extra-judicial killings” by law enforcers.
