Salman Rahman put on remand in killing case

A Dhaka court yesterday placed Salman F Rahman, former private industry affairs adviser to oust-ed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, on a three-day remand in a case lodged over the killing of one Al-Amin during the student-led July-August mass-uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman passed the order as police produced Salman, be-lieved to be one of the orchestrators of the biggest financial crimes committed in the country in the recent past, before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand.
Salman F Rahman was arrested from the capital’s Sadarghat area as he was trying to flee the capital along with former law minister Anisul Huq through the waterways on August 13, 2024. He was placed on a 10-day remand in shopper Shahjahan Ali murder case the next day.
According to the case documents, police and Awami League cadres attacked agitating people dur-ing the anti-discrimination student movement in the capital’s Jatrabari area on July 21. They fired at the protesters
indiscriminately. Al-Amin got shot in the attack and died on the spot.
His father filed the case with the Jatrabari Police Station against 99 named accused and 100-150 unnamed others.
