Tight security on 31st night

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sajjat Ali yesterday said they have taken re-quired security measures so that the city dwellers can celebrate the 31st night peacefully.
“We have taken all possible security measures for peaceful celebration of the 31st night,” he said at a press briefing organized at the DMP Media Center yesterday.
Wishing the city residents a happy English New Year, the DMP Commissioner called upon all to comply with the police instructions by not exploding crackers or fireworks.
“Do not cause trouble to the common people by bursting fireworks, rocket bombs, and crackers during the New Year celebration. Don’t cause trouble to those who are taking treatment in the hospitals,” he said.
Referring to the security measures taken centering the 31st night, he said, “We will deploy addi-tional police in all the areas where there will be a large crowd.”
In addition, he said the regular patrol team in plain clothes and specialized units will be responsible for maintaining security.
The DMP Commissioner said, “The cooperation of the city residents is absolutely necessary to en-sure overall security on the occasion of the 31st night and the English New Year celebrations.”
He said they have already started taking various preventive measures.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry’s Additional Secretary Tapan Kumar Biswas, Additional Police Commissioner (Admin) Faruk Ahmed, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md. Nazrul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Khondaker Nazmul Hasan and Deputy Police Commissioner of Media and Public Relations Division Muham-mad Talebur Rahman, among others, were present.
