ICT instructs to complete investigation against eight police within two months

The International Crime Tribunal (ICT) today instructed the authorities concerned to complete investigation against eight police officials within the next two months for their alleged involvement in the crimes against humanity.

The three-member panel of the tribunal headed by its Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder passed the order asking the authority to submit the probe report on February 20 next.

Prosecutor ABM Sultan Mahmud moved for the tribunal.

Earlier, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah-Al-Mamun, director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Committee (NTMC) major general (Rtd) Ziaul Ahsan and six other police officers were produced before the tribunal.

The other police officers are-former Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mirpur Division Md Jasim Uddin Mollah, former police super of Dhaka-Savar area Md Abdullah Al Kafi, additional police super (Adi.SP) Savar Circle in Dhaka district Md Shahidul Islam, former officer-in-charge (OC) Gulshan Md Majaharul Haque, former OC Jatrabari Abul Hasan and former Inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) Dhaka North Md Arafat Hossain.

The tribunal on November 20 instructed the investigation authority to complete the investigation against the eight officers for their alleged involvement in mass killing during the July-August uprising. The court also ordered the concerned authorities to confine the accused police officers in the jail. The ICT also fixed December 19 for the hearing against the offenders.

The ousted government led by fascist prime minister Sheikh Hasina reportedly instructed party cadres and a section of administrative officers including the police to carry out mass killing.
