LMW Global FZE, a leading textile spinning machinery manufacturer, has instituted “Abdul Matin Chowdhury Award” to honour and recognise the outstanding contribution of industrialist A Matin Chowdhury.
This award celebrates the dedication and significant role of Matin Chowdhury in advancing the textile industry in Bangladesh, as well as his pivotal efforts in establishing LMW products and services as a leading technology provider in the country’s market.
The first A Matin Chowdhury Award ceremony was held on the premises of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) in Dhaka on 9 December.
The top performing textile graduates at AUST received the award.
Ramanadane C, CEO of LMW Global FZE, Dubai, UAE, in his speech, highlighted Matin Chowdhury’s pivotal role in establishing LMW products as market leaders. The CEO also emphasised the company’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a strong position through high technology products and after-sales services.
Matin Chowdhury in his speech to the student community and industry leaders recalled the growth journey of Textiles in the country, how the challenges faced were converted into opportunities and on the leadership role to be played by the outgoing graduates in sustaining this growth to take the industry to the next level.
He emphasised, “The future of textiles would be man-made fibers and hence to remain competitive and environmentally responsible, one has to embrace this shift.”
Shawkat Aziz Russel, president of BTMA, shared updates on innovative projects, including the establishment of a second plant for producing synthetic fibers from PET bottles.
He pointed out the pressing need for skilled manpower in the field, recommending that AUST establish a dedicated department for man-made fibers to train future experts. Besides, he also revealed plans to secure research funding to advance synthetic fiber technology.
Prof Dr Md Ashraful Hoque, vice-chancellor of AUST, Prof Dr Mohammed Mahbubur Rahman, pro-vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Sharmin Reza Chowdhury, treasurer, Emdadul Haque, HOD, Textile Engineering Department, AUST, thanked LMW Global FZE for sponsoring such award to encourage the students and to strengthen the bond between academia and industry.
The event concluded by honouring Md Raihanul Islam and Maliha Akter Mitu, final year students from the Yarn Engineering Stream with the award for their exceptional academic achievements.
The A Matin Chowdhury Award will continue to recognise four outstanding final-year students from AUST’s textile department each year.
This award ceremony served as a crucial platform for fostering collaboration between academia and industry, sparking meaningful discussions on sustainability, technological innovation, and the expanding role of man-made fibers in the future of textiles.
