A Dhaka court yesterday sent former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun to jail.
After three days remand in Fazlul Karim murder case inspector Mahmudur Rahman of the detective branch (DB) yesterday produced him before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate (MM).
The DB Inspector prayed for confining him in the jail till the end of the investigation into the case filed with Uttapa Purba thana. After hearing the statement of the prosecution side, the court ordered to send him to jail.
Police on September 3 arrested the former IGP from the capital for his alleged involvement with the mass killing during the July-August uprising.
At first he was first taken on 18 days remand and later it was extended for 43 days in seven cases.
Lastly, he was taken on a three-day police remand in connection with Fazlul Karim murder case.
According to the case, Fazlul Karim took part in the anti-discrimination student movement at Jasim Ud-din crossing under Uttara Purba thana on August 5 last. Fazlul Karim along with other protesters suf-fered critical bullet injuries and taken to Bangladesh-Kuwait Friendship Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Anwar Hossain Aynal, brother of Fazlul Karim, filed a case in this connection with Uttara Purba thana accusing 39 persons including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun is accused number 6 in the case.
