Law Adviser Asif Nazrul on Friday criticised India’s hypocritical position over the plight of minorities as it continues to air unfounded concerns over attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, but at the same time unflinchingly brutalises Muslim minorities in its own territory.
The adviser made the strong remarks on a Facebook post.
He also referred to the Voice of America’s (VOA) recent survey which claimed that the majority (64.1%) believe the interim government has managed to provide more security for minorities compared with the India-allied Awami League fascist government.
While the claim reflects opinions of 92.7% Muslim respondents, targeted data from minority respondents revealed 66.1% feel their security situation has improved or at least stayed the same under the Prof Yunus-led interim government, in a big rejection of India’s claims of repeated minority attacks since the fall of Awami League dictatorship.
The 5 August fall of Awami League government paved the way for Prof Yunus’ administration to assume power and run state affairs until the next general elections.
General people have themselves witnessed how Bangladeshi Muslims from every walks of lives including general students, religious school students and political figures came forward to provide security to the minorities, Asif Nazrul pointed out.
In the most recent show of tolerance, when Advocate Saiful Islam Alim was brutally killed by miscreants in the middle of a violent Hindu demonstration, Bangladeshi Muslims did not seek reprisal or resorted to violence.
In spite of all these show of forbearance and support, India has continued to express irrational concerns over the plight of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.
