BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed his party’s optimism that the interim government will be able to hold the next general election at the appropriate time.
“The government has already made significant progresses and continues to work. We fully support its efforts and remain hopeful that it will conduct the national election at the appropriate time,” he said.
Fakhrul said this in response to a question from a reporter after placing wreaths at the grave of BNP founder late president Ziaur Rahman, marking the 7 November, in Sher-e-Banglanagar area of Dhaka on Thursday.
Citing his widespread resentment over the oppressive acts of the ousted Awami League government, Fakhrul claimed that false and politically motivated cases were filed against six million people during the tenure of the recently ended fascist regime.
“The fascist Awami League-led government was engaged in hatching conspiracy all the time only to eliminate BNP politics from the country and it has made 700 people victims of enforced disappearance to make its efforts successful,” Fakhrul said.
Establishing a ring of fascism in the country, Awami League has wanted to resume its one-party BaKSA rule in the country, he said.
