Staff Reporter:

July Shaheed Smriti Foundation would primarily donate Tk5 lakh to the families of those martyred in the July-August anti-fascist movement periodically starting Saturday.

Every week, 200 families would be selected for availing the donation, and by December all the families of the listed 800 martyrs will have received the funds, said the foundation’s General Secretary Sarjis Alam at a press conference held at Shahbagh in the capital on Friday.

On Saturday, 200 families from Dhaka division would get the funds at Nagar Bhaban in the capital, and next week another 200 families would be selected to get the donations, Sarjis said.

The families of injured protesters would get Tk1 lakh, which is being sent via Bkash mobile financial service. However, for emergency treatment, funds will be sent within three days of making a distress call on the helpline 16000.

As per unofficial estimates, there are over 24,000 injured people and more than 1,600 martyrs of the movement. After verifying the identities, the final list would be hopefully completed before December, Sarjis said noting authorities are also working to complete the primary donation disbursal activities by December.

As of now, July Shaheed Smriti Foundation have managed to confirm that more than 800 people died in the July-August mass uprising.

The Foundation is also working to rehabilitate the injured people, and considering long-term support measures for those rendered permanently incapable to work, Sarjis told reporters.
