The 26 students, sent to jail for creating trouble inside the Secretariat on Wednesday demanding cancellation of ‘discriminatory HSC result’, are involved with Chhatra League politics.
In a press release on Thursday, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said that initial questioning revealed the arrested individuals were involved with the banned student organization.
Deputy Commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Department, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, informed that 54 people were detained on Wednesday for unlawfully entering the Secretariat and protesting.
In this incident, 26 individuals have been formally arrested and sent to court under a case filed at Shahbagh police station. The remaining 28 were released into the custody of their guardians.
The case also includes 60 to 70 unidentified individuals as accused.
The 26 students were identified as- Jahirul Islam, Md Foysal Hasan, Md Raihan Hossain, Md Rubel Ahammed, Md Riad Mahmud, Md Mesbaur Rahman Millat, Mehedi Hasan, Sohan (1), Imran Hossain Arman, Mehedi Hasan Ontor, Sagor, Rohan, Shahriar Hossain, Ahad Mollah, Sohan (2), Masnun Hossain, Naim, Imam Hasan, Shakil, Selim, Saqlain Mostak, Hanjalal, Moshiur Rahman, Prantik, Tasin Rahman and Robin Miah.
A group of students stormed in the Bangladesh Secretariat and managed to enter into protected area of the yesterday.
At one stage they turned unruly raising slogans, carrying out vandalism inside the secretariat and obstructing government employees from doing their duties.
Later army and police teams intervened and dispersed them and taking some them to police custody.
A case has been filed with the capital’s Shahbagh police station in this connection.
