252 trainee police SIs discharged

Staff Reporter:
Home Ministry Adviser Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) yesterday said 252 trainee sub-inspectors (SIs) of police were discharge from their posts for breach of discipline.
“Two hundred fifty two sub-inspectors were discharged for breach of discipline not for political reason,” he said while replying to a question after coming out of the third meeting of the advisers on law and order.
The Home Adviser said an advertisement for recruitment has already been published to fill up the (vacant) posts.
“We will complete the appointment as soon as possible,” he said.
About the ongoing drive against illegal firearms, Jahangir said, “Eighty percent of the looted fire-arms have already been recovered. The drive to this end will be continued.”
Replying to another question, the Home Adviser said they would take action if any criminal re-leased from jail on bails, engage in criminal acts.
Jahangir requested all to hold meetings and rallies at the Suhrawardy Udyan instead of Shahbagh considering suffering of the people.
He continued that the programs on the streets and roads create chaos and traffic jams and all have to suffer for that.
“The suffering will be reduced many fold if these are held at Suhrawardy Udyan. So, I request all to hold the programs at the Suhrawardy Udyan instead of Shahbagh,” he said.
Jahangir said the Biswa Ijtema would be held in January next, but the date is yet to be fixed.
The meeting of the advisers on law and order also discussed about the improvement of the law and order, security arrangement over the Biswa Ijtema, the overall measures to prevent and stamp out militancy and terrorism and drive against illegal arms.
Members of the committee were present at the meeting presided over by the Home Adviser.
