Govt. to find out actual condition of total vehicles

Staff Reporter:

The interim government has taken a decision to find out how many vehicles and cars it owns and to as-certain the actual condition of those vehicles.
The decision was taken yesterday at the 3rd ECNEC meeting of this fiscal year (FY25) held at the Chief Adviser’s Office in the capital with Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus in the chair.
Planning Adviser Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud revealed the decision while briefing reporters at the NEC Conference Room about the outcomes of the meeting.
He said that there are so many vehicles of the government and every project has a huge number of vehi-cles of its own. “After completion of the projects where these vehicles go?” he questioned.
The Adviser also mentioned that many people said after completing the projects, these vehicles remain as left over. “Again other ministries took over these vehicles, a public servant holds 3 to 4 vehicles under his/her jurisdiction,” he said.
Dr Mahmud also said that these vehicles do not last long like the personally procured vehicles. “But, the longevity of government’s vehicles is not like the personal ones and that is another problem.” he said.
So, he mentioned that the advisers in the day’s ECNEC meeting have taken a decision to figure out how many vehicles are there for the government in the country starting from upazila level.
The Planning Adviser also said that the government has decided to use those vehicles in other govern-ment offices which would be cost effective and thus save public fund.
