Secretary to the Ministry of Labor and Employment AHM Shafiquzzaman yesterday said the overall situation in the Readymade Garments (RMG), including the prevailing dissatisfaction of the garment workers are being monitored and hopefully the situation will be changed very soon.
“We’re all monitoring the situation of garment workers’ dissatisfaction . . . Hope that the situation will calm down shortly,” he told journalists replying to a media query following a function in Bangladesh Secretariat here.
He was attending a reception ceremony of the champion and runner-up debaters in a debate competition on the ‘Prevention of Child Labor’ here.
Asked about the workers’ road blockade in Ashulia area, the Labour and Employment Secretary said, “We are addressing everything. We, including the Home Affairs Advisor, are monitoring the overall law and order situation there.”
Noting that the government would do everything to save country’s economy through ensuring the neces-sary production, he said they would solve the problems through discussion between the factory owners and workers.
Regarding child labour issue, he said the government is working to reduce child labour at ‘zero’ level. “We are having a dialogue to this end,” he added.
