10 vigilance teams formed to curb dengue outbreak

The government has formed 10 vigilance teams to implement the anti-mosquito campaign properly across the country in the current season to prevent the nation-wide dengue outbreak.
“A total of 10 vigilance teams have been formed to properly implement, coordinate and closely monitor the anti-mosquito drive to combat the outbreak of dengue intensively,” according to an official release here yesterday.
In an attempt to tackle the dengue situation across the country, including the Dhaka South City Corpora-tion (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), the decision was taken in an emergency meet-ing at the Secretariat here this morning with Secretary of Local Government Division (LGD) Abu Hena Morshed Zaman in the chair.
Of the teams, four will work in DSCC areas, three will work in DNCC areas and one team each has been formed for other city corporations including Narayanganj, Gazipur and Chattogram.
Besides, another team has been formed for the vulnerable areas under Savar, Dohar, Tarabo, Rupganj and other municipalities.
While a seven-member committee has also been formed for information and coordinating the program headed by additional and joint secretaries of LGD under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural De-velopment and Co-operatives.
The teams will visit at least three dengue outbreak areas daily and monitor its prevention program with the coordination of chief executives of the city corporations and municipalities.
To save the people from the dengue surge, the speakers also discussed on creating mass awareness, de-stroying the breeding grounds of the mosquitoes, conducting cleaning operations and the program on how to destroy the larva and the mosquitoes.
The report which includes necessary steps related to the drive against the outbreak would have to be submitted regularly to the Information Collection Committee under the LGD.
Then the report containing necessary steps on combating the dengue outbreak and other drive related information will also be broadcasted and displayed through website, mass media and social media.
Additional Secretaries at the LGD M Nazrul Islam, AKM Tariqul Alam, M Fazlur Rahman, Administra-tor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) M Mahmudul Hasan, Administrator of Narayanganj City Corporation AHM Quamruzzaman and other local government division officials, among others, were present in the meeting.
