The Awami League has compiled a visual document titled “Month-long State-Sponsored Program to Decimate Awami League,” which has been sent to the United Nations, embassies, high commissions, and international human rights organizations. The document highlights a series of violent incidents and acts of repression targeting Awami League leaders, members, and minority communities over the past month.
The ALBD Online Team prepared the visual report, using media coverage to document attacks on the party’s leaders, workers, and minority groups. It was distributed via email to various human rights or-ganizations, urging both local and international supporters to speak out.
A senior member of the Awami League Central Working Committee confirmed the release of the docu-ment.
“We are writing to bring to your attention grave violations of human rights and crimes against humanity unleashed in a coordinated manner against minorities and citizens who are opposed to Bangladesh Na-tionalist Party and Jamaat-e-Islami,” the document says.
The Awami League claims that since former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country on August 5, there has been a surge in attacks on party members. The report also accuses law enforcement agencies of torturing Awami League activists to death, while granting impunity to those involved in the killings and lootings of residences.
The visual document also highlights attacks on freethinkers, journalists, and writers, who have been tar-geted for their dissenting views. Many have reportedly been implicated in false charges, intensifying the atmosphere of fear and repression.
The Awami League further alleges that the interim government has allowed public calls for “lynching on sight” without any legal consequences, deepening the erosion of human rights in the country.
The Awami League is urging the United Nations, foreign embassies, and human rights organizations to officially condemn the government’s inaction and the escalating violence.
In its appeal, the party calls for diplomatic pressure to halt what it describes as “genocide” and to restore law and order. “We request the global community to exert diplomatic pressure on the regime to stop the genocide, ensure justice, and restore human rights immediately,” the document says.
The party also emphasizes the need for the international community to address the political divisions deepening in Bangladesh. “We request the UN to address the state-sponsored politics of division, which is obstructing the country’s transition to an inclusive and democratic path,” the report notes.
The document calls for international organizations to engage with Bangladesh’s interim government to prevent further escalation of violence and human rights violations.
Engage international rights bodies to address the brazen violations of human rights, the document says, highlighting that national media outlets are under intense pressure to suppress critical reporting on the situation. “Initiate discussions at the parliamentary level on Bangladesh’s slide into chaos and push for the restoration of the rule of law,” it says.
The Awami League warns that the future of Bangladesh’s democracy, inclusivity, and tolerance is at risk. The future of inclusivity, tolerance, and plurality in Bangladesh is at stake, the document says, calling the international community to take a stand to ensure these grave abuses do not escalate further.
