Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Mainul Hassan yesterday at a view exchange meet-ing with bus owners asked them to maintain discipline and effective management strictly to bring the nagging traffic jam in the city to a tolerable level.
At the meeting at the DMP Headquarters, Mainul gave bus owners various directives and suggestions that include stop plying buses without fitness and stop haphazard taking and releasing passengers on the middle of the road on the whims of drivers and helpers.
Mainul also asked the bus owners to make aware the drivers and helpers and bring them under strong monitoring and accountability alongside following cautionary measures to pursue the directives.
“We will be able to bring the traffic jam of the (Dhaka) city at a tolerable level with the support of all concerned,” he said. He assured the bus owners that the DMP would always be beside them in any need.
The commissioner said he took the charge of the DMP in a special time after the student-people uprising of August 5. At that time one kind of mismanagement was in road and mass transport.
“We have been able to bring normalcy (to the mass transport) from that situation at the quickest possible time. Now, we’re trying to maintain the situation,” he said.
DMP Additional Commissioner (Admin) Faruk Ahmed, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Khondoker Nazmul Hasan, Joint Commissioners, police officers concerned of traffic department and bus owners and their representatives attended the meeting.
