The Home Ministry in a statement yesterday announced to carry out crackdown on the miscreants, irre-spective of their parties and opinion, involved in taking the law in hands, to maintain law and order.
“When the government has called upon the United Nations to unearth the truth (behind many deaths and injuries to contain the student-people mass uprising to dislodge the authoritarian government) and initi-ated the trial proceeding, a gang of over-enthusiastic and vested quarter has been taking the law in hands,” the statement said.
It added that in the name of protests, the gang has been trying to create unstable situation (in the coun-try) through seizing various institutions, forcing people to resign, ransacking, setting fire, illegal search-ing, looting, extortion, tender manipulation, creating pressure on police to register cases on the random basis and attacking the accused on the court premises.
“We are clearly mentioning on behalf of the government that appropriate legal action will be taken against such activities breaching the public safety. The government will soon launch drives against the miscreants irrespective of their party affiliation and pinion after confirming their identities,” the state-ment said.
The government has called upon all to extend them wholehearted cooperation to this end, assuring eve-ryone that filing of cases does not mean wholesale arrests rather appropriate measures will be taken after proper scrutiny.
The statement suggested informing the concerned high officials and offices if there are any allegations against anyone, saying, “In no way, any institution can be seized or violent act can be committed.”
On behalf of the government, the existing laws will be followed accordingly in conducting searches and accepting the cases and measures will be taken to stamp out harassment.
The statement said the interim government has taken the charge of running the country after the auto-cratic government was ousted on August 5 in face of the student-people mass uprising led by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Many casualties had been caused by the ousted government to contain the movement. Many people have been the victims of abduction, enforced disappearance, extra-judicial killings and various inhuman tor-tures. So, the masses have resentment against the ousted government.
The statement said the interim government is firmly committed to hold the trials of all the misdeeds.
