Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan yesterday said the interim govern-ment would always be hard against corruption, injustice and discrimination and work for the welfare of the people.
“The interim government that was formed following collective sacrifices of the student-people (in the recent uprising) will always be tough against corruption, injustice-unjust and discrimination,” he said.
The adviser made the assertion when a four-member Chinese delegation led by Ambassador of China to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a courtesy call on him at his ministry yesterday.
Mentioning that the interim government has already taken some measures for the welfare of the people, he said the government will decide the price of the electricity through mass hearing for which section 34 (ka) of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Act (BERC) had been annulled from the relevant law.
He said they will invite open tender to fix the price of work orders through open competition in future for which it will not sign any special agreement with anyone or give any special advantage to anyone.
Fouzul Kabir said the government has a plan to set up Land Based Gas Plant alongside increasing use of renewal energy by cutting down use of fossil fuel to overcome the current gas crisis.
He sought Chinese financial and technical cooperation in purchasing Battery Energy Storage System and locomotives of trains and in various Chinese schemes in road, bridge, rail, power and energy sectors.
The Chinese envoy assured Bangladesh of extending full cooperation saying that China is one of the de-velopment partners of Bangladesh and the country always want to invest in the projects undertaken for the overall development of the people of Bangladesh.
He sought assistance from the government on quick implementation of the Chinese projects in Bangla-desh.
In response, the adviser assured of required cooperation to China to this end saying, “The government has underscored the need for ensuring better services to the people by ensuring the standard of the works in lower costs.”
At the meeting, the Chinese Ambassador urged the Bangladesh authorities to formulate a long term plan in green energy sector for attracting investment from his country.
He also assured the Bangladesh government of giving necessary financial and technical support in the sectors on priority basis.
