DMP bans rallies, demos in key places

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned all kinds of meetings, gatherings, marches, processions, and demonstrations in some important areas of the capital.

DMP Commissioner Md Mainul Hassan issued a public notice in this regard on Thursday night.

The ban will come into effect from 30 August and continue till further order.

Restriction on holding meetings and gatherings has been imposed on the roads adjacent to the chief justice’s official residence, Justice Bhaban, Judges Complex, the main gate of the Supreme Court, and Matsya Bhaban, read the notice.

The DMP imposed the ban as per Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, 1976, to maintain public order amid the emerging situation.

Earlier, it imposed another ban on all kinds of gatherings, rallies, and demonstrations near the Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus’ official residence, Jamuna, and the Bangladesh Secretariat until further notice.
