BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas was acquitted Thursday in two cases filed by the ACC on charges of acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income and concealing wealth-related information.
Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 Judge Md Masud Parvez announced the verdict on Thursday. The court acquitted Mirza Abbas as the charges against him were not proved. Mirza Abbas was acquitted in another case filed by the ACC for plot allotment irregularities.
ACC Deputy Director Md Shafiul Alam filed the case against Mirza Abbas in Ramna Police Station on 16 August 2007 for acquiring wealth of Tk7,54,32,290 inconsistent with income and concealing information of Tk57,26,571.
After investigation, ACC Deputy Director Md Khairul Huda submitted a charge sheet to the court on 24 May 2008. He was charged with illegal acquisition of Tk4,23,00,000 and concealment of property information of Tk22 lakh. On 16 June 2008, charges were framed against Mirza Abbas.
