Former Appellate Division Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik has been detained.
Local residents detained him from Zakiganj border area in Sylhet and handed him over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Later, he was taken to the Sylhet BGB Sector Headquarters.
According to sources, he was attempting to flee to India.
A case was filed with Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate(CMM) court on Thursday against AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSoD) President Hasanul Haque Inu for making derogatory remarks about BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman.
After a hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to submit a report after an investigation.
According to the petition of the complainant, Justice Manik made derogatory comments about Ziaur Rahman on October 3, 2022 at a talk show aired by “Channel i”, in which Manik said “Ziaur Rahman was not a freedom fighter , he was a Razakar” .
