Staff Reporter:
The water level in Kaptai Lake has increased due to torrential rain.
However, it has not yet reached its peak capacity.
This partial increase in water level has contributed to a boost in power generation, as more water availability allows for enhanced operational efficiency of the hydroelectric facilities.
On Friday at 4pm, the water level in Kaptai Lake was 106.24 feet Mean Sea Level (MSL).
Earlier, at 9am, the water level was 105.84 feet MSL.
Additionally, at 4:05pm, ATM Abduzzahar, the manager of the PDB, stated that no decision has yet been made regarding the release of water.
“If the water level exceeds 108 feet MSL, a decision on water release will be made after consulting with the Lake Management Committee. In such a case, the public will be informed.”
ATM Abduzzahar further mentioned that if a decision to release water is made, a notice will be issued at least six hours in advance to the Rangamati District Administration, Rangunia Upazila Administration, and the Chittagong Port Authority.
The full water capacity of Kaptai Lake is 109 feet MSL.
