BNP staged demonstrations across the country on Thursday demanding the trial of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, along with her aides, for killing many civilian protesters to retain hold on power during a mass upsurge — before ultimately fleeing the country.
Leaders and activities of BNP and it’s associate bodies joined the sit-in programmes that started at 11am in the capital’s several places.
The places included the Central Shaheen Minar, the South Gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, in front of Awami League Office, and in front of BNP Central Office.
In the afternoon, they joined a rally in front of BNP Central Office in Nayapaltan where it’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir addressed the rally.
BNP Dhaka South City unit arranged the sit-in programme at the South gate of Baitul Mukarram Mosque.
Addressing the function the unit’s convener Rafiqul Islam said, “Our demand is only one and that is the fallen fascist and autocratic Sheikh Hasina and her aides to be arrested and tried. These persons carried out genocide in Bangladesh.”
More than hundreds of leaders and activists of Jubo Dal Savar unit are holding a sit-in programme in front of Awami League Central Office in the city’s Bangabandhu Avenue. They are chanting different slogans demanding the trial of Sheikh Hasina.

Besides, BNP city units, Jubo Dal and Swecchasebak Dal brought out processors on different city’s streets including Malibagh, Mouchak, Shahjahanpur and Kaptan Bazar.
