BNP sends letter to UN seeking probe into mass killing

Staff Reporter:

BNP has sent a letter to the United Nations (UN) seeking investigation into the mass killing staged by Awami League (AL) government during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
A delegation of the party handed over the letter to UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Gwyn Lewis at her office-cum residence in city’s Gulshan area yesterday.
BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Organizing Secretary and Inter-national Affairs Committee Member Shama Obaid and Media Cell Member Shairul Kabir Khan were in the delegation.
Before handing over the letter, the BNP delegation held a meeting with the UN Resident Coordinator.
Talking to journalists after handing over the letter, Amir Khasru said they applied to the UN for con-ducting a neutral, transparent and international-standard investigation into the genocide carried out by an illegal government.
“We requested to find out the truth,” he said.
The BNP senior leader said the killings carried out under the patronization of the government through local and international conspiracy should be unearthed to the nation.
“We demanded the investigation so that none can dare to carry out such killings in the future and none can desire to stay in power by killing any citizens,” Amir Khasru said.
He said they requested the UN to conduct the investigation to free the nation from stigma.
“We have also requested the resident coordinator to tell the matter to the chief adviser to the interim government,” he mentioned.
