Protesters attack 2 army patrol teams in Gopalganj: ISPR

At least nine army personnel were injured as the demonstrators attacked two patrol teams with sharp weapons at Gopinathpur of Gopalganj Sadar upazila on Saturday, an Inter Services Public Relation Di-rectorate (ISPR) release said.
“Three officers, one junior commissioned officer and five soldiers were injured as agitated protesters attacked two army patrol teams with local weapons and brick chips at Gopinathpur of Gopalganj Sadar upazila on Saturday,” the release said last night.
The on-duty two army teams earlier rushed to the spot aiming to bring the situation under control initial-ly as the demonstrators blockaded Gopalganj-Dhaka Highway there, it added.
At one stage, the demonstrators hurled brick-bats to the army patrol teams and attacked with the local weapons, resulting in the army personnel injured, the release continued.
The agitated men also torched an army vehicle and vandalized two other vehicles.
At that situation, the army patrol teams fired four round ammunitions with a target to disperse the de-monstrators and bring the situation under control.
Additional army personnel have already been deployed to the spot considering the acute situation.
The injured members of the Bangladesh army are now undergoing treatment and out of risk.
