Staff Reporter:
Metro rail operations can be resumed at any time as all stations, except Mirpur-10 and Kazipara, are fully functional.
The Dhaka Metro Rail’s infrastructure, including coaches, lines, and signalling systems, remains undamaged despite recent quota reform protests.
Despite this readiness, the authorities at Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) await higher-level directives for reopening the service.
With the recent formation of the interim government, no advisor has yet been appointed to oversee the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, which is responsible for the metro rail’s operations.
It is anticipated that once Dr Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the interim government, assumes office on Sunday, the ministry’s secretary may seek further instructions regarding the metro rail’s operation.
DMTCL sources also mentioned that while the system is operational, international practice dictates that a test run is necessary after a prolonged shutdown to ensure all systems are functioning correctly.
The decision to conduct a single or multiple test runs will depend on the recommendations of DMTCL’s technical team.
