232 killed in violence after Hasina’s resignation

Following Sheikh Hasina’s resignation as the prime minister on Monday, violence and clashes have erupted across Bangladesh, with at least 232 people reported dead in various attacks and conflicts over the past three days.

The information is based on a report published by daily Prothom Alo on Thursday.

The report states that most of the deaths occurred on Tuesday, with some individuals dying while undergoing treatment.

Previously, during the quota and anti-discrimination student movements from July 16 to August 4, a total of 328 deaths were reported.

Thus, the total number of deaths over the past 23 days has reached 560.

On Monday, 10 bodies from the recent clashes were brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, including six police officers and one Ansar member.

On Tuesday, six people were killed when prisoners attempted to escape from Kashimpur High Security Prison in Gazipur and were shot by the prison guards.

On Wednesday, three more people died while being treated in Savar, Dhaka.

In Gagnibari, Meherpur district, one person was killed and seven others were injured during a house attack and subsequent clash on Tuesday night.

The deceased, Naharul Islam, was affiliated with BNP.

Additionally, on Wednesday, a clash between Awami League and BNP supporters in Bhairab, Kishoreganj district, resulted in one death.

The confrontation occurred between the supporters of Awami League Executive Committee member Shefayet Ullah and former BNP Vice President Tofazzal Hossain.
