Shahjahan Siraj’s death anniv today

The fourth death anniversary of former BNP minister Shahjahan Siraj, one of the key organizers of the Liberation War in 1971, will be observed today in a befitting manner.
Shahjahan Siraj Welfare Trust has planned various program in Dhaka and his birthplace in Tangail’s Kalihati to commemorate his death anniversary with due respect.
As part of the programs, followers of Shahjahan Siraj will place wreaths at his grave at Banani Grave-yard in Dhaka and offer fateha there, praying for the salvation of his departed soul.
Additionally, a food distribution program and doa and milad sessions will be held at the orphanages run by Anjuman Mufidul Islam.
In Kalihati, the day’s events will commence with wreath-laying at the deceased’s memorial. Scholarships will also be awarded to deserving students from underprivileged backgrounds in Kalihati.
Besides, doa mahfil, Qurankhwani, and special prayers will be arranged at mosques in the upazila.
Shahjahan Siraj passed away on July 14, 2020, at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka at the age of 77.
Shahjahan Siraj read out the manifesto of independence at a significant public gathering at Paltan Mai-dan on March 3, 1971, in the presence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Muibur Rahman.
During his 60-year-long political career, he was elected as a member of parliament five times. His final term was in 2001, representing BNP, where he served as the Minister for Forests and Environment in Khaleda Zia’s cabinet.
