10 students injured in clash with police at Agargaon

Staff Reporter:

A clash erupted on Thursday when police personnel tried to prevent the students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University from marching towards the Agargaon intersection as part of a countrywide blockade programme against public service quota system.

At least 10 students were injured when police charged baton on them.

Later, the students bypassed the police barricade and blocked the Mirpur-Khamar Bari route near the Planning Ministry office.

The students said they wanted a peaceful blockade, but baton charges by police heated up the situation. Despite sustaining injuries, they would continue their protest to press home the one-point demand of keeping only 5% quotas in government job recruitment for job seekers from disadvantaged communities, the students told reporters.
