We must respect law: Mohibul

Staff Reporter:

Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury yesterday said the quota issue is now under trial.
“We must respect the rule of law and since it is still pending in the High Court, a definite verdict will be given by our Honourable Supreme Court. So, commenting on it as contempt of court unless the final verdict is announced,” he said.
The minister said this while addressing a reception ceremony for the meritorious children, who obtained GPA-5 in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations-2023 and 2024 and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) examinations-2023, of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) members as the chief
guest at its Nasrul Hamid auditorium.
The minister refrained from any comment on the matter, which would be contempt of court, adding: “It would not be appropriate to comment on the issue now from a responsible part or place of the country. The executive department can look into the matter after the verdict of the court.”
On the occasion, crests, certificates and stipend money were given to the DRU member’s meritorious children.
Chaired by DRU President Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo, the function was also addressed, among others, by Chairman of South Bangla Agriculture and Commerce (SBAC) Bank PLC AZM Shafiuddin Shamim, MP, and its Additional Managing Director (in-charge of managing director) Md Nurul Azim.
General Secretary of DRU Mohi Uddin gave a welcome speech on the occasion while its Welfare Secre-tary Tanver Ahmed moderated the programme.
