Staff Reporter:

The country’s second submarine cable was repaired on Friday morning, over two months after it snapped near Singapore, reviving internet speed in the country.

Saidur Rahman, general manager at state-run Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC, has confirmed the development to reporters.

The consortium of the submarine cable, referred to as South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 5 (SEA-ME-WE 5), completed repair works on Friday morning, Saidur said.

He also apologized to the country’s internet users for facing slowdown for two months and eight days.

The Bangladeshi point of the cable is installed at Kuakata in Patuakhali and it broke down near Singapore on 19 April.
