A Dhaka court on Thursday placed two suspects arrested a day earlier – Mustafizur Rahman and Faisal Bhuiyan – on a six-day remand in a case filed over the abduction and murder of Awami League lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ataullah passed the order following a 10-day remand prayer by Md Mahfuzur Rahman, an assistant commissioner of the Detective Branch of Police and also the investigating officer of the case.
Lawyer Tapas Kumar Paul represented the state during the hearing. However, no lawyer stood for the accused.
Earlier on Wednesday, DB teams, led by Additional Commissioner (DB) of the DMP Harun-or-Rashid, conducted drives in Khagrachhari’s hilly areas to arrest Mostafiz and Faisal.
Soon after the arrest, they two accused were brought to Dhaka by helicopter.
MP Anar went to Kolkata on 11 May for medical treatment and went missing on 14 May after leaving the flat in Kolkata.
A case was filed on 22 May with the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station following a complaint lodged by the victim’s daughter Mumtarin Ferdous Dorin.
