Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has called upon the authorities concerned to remain vigil in preventing cattle markets being set up on roads, to facilitate smoother journey for holidaymakers.
Quader, also general secretary of the ruling Awami League, made the call while addressing a press conference at party President Sheikh Hasina’s political office in Dhanmondi area of Dhaka on Friday noon.
“Animal-laden trucks and roadside cattle markets sometimes cause traffic jams. I ask the authorities concerned to discharge their duties appropriately to make the Eid journey easier for holidaymakers,” he said.
He also underscored the need for increased monitoring on roads and highways across the country to prevent any untoward incidents and casualties during the Eid journey.
There is a huge pressure of vehicles on the roads but no traffic jams were reported during this year’s Eid trip, said the minister.
