Training aircraft crashes: Pilot Asim Jawad dies

A pilot was killed and another injured after a training aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force (YAK130) crashed into the Karnaphuli River on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Asim Jawad. He was the squadron leader of the Air Force.

Jawad joined the Bangladesh Air Force Academy (BAFA) in 2010. He was commissioned as a pilot officer in 2011.

Jawad died around 12:30pm while undergoing treatment at the Banouja Isa Khan Hospital in Patenga.

The injured pilot’s name is Sohan. He is serving as Wing Commander of the Air Force.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shakila Sultana confirmed the matter.

Co-pilot Wing Commander Sohan, who sustained injuries in the incident, is undergoing treatment at the hospital, she said.
