Some unidentified miscreants shot and then slit the throat of a local union parishad member at a bazar in Narshingdi Sadar Upazila on Monday noon.
The deceased has been identified as Rubel Ahmed, 40, a member of Ward Number 8 of Amdia union parishad of Narsingdi sadar upazila.
Sub-Inspector Fazle Rabbi of Madhabdi police station told reporters that the body of the deceased was sent to the sadar hospital for autopsy. Police were trying to learn about the motive behind the killing, Fazle Rabbi said. Rubel may have been killed due to previous enmity, one officer claimed.
Police officers and locals said Rubel was crossing a local government primary school on a motorbike en route to his home on Monday noon when has was attacked.
A group of 5-6 criminals shot at him six times from a car. As Rubel fell off his bike, the killers got off their car and mounted on Rubel’s body to slit his throat.
Tensions persisted for some hours in Pakuria area of Narsingdi sadar due to the daring nature of the broad daylight killing.
