JS body asks to set up sensor system to prevent train accident

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Railways Ministry on Wednesday recommended the government to take necessary measures to introduce sensor systems and technology for auto-matic train stop to prevent accident.
The parliamentary body also suggested taking steps to install closed circuit cameras in front of trains in a bid to detect the accident causes.
The recommendation came from its 2nd meeting chaired by ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury at Par-liament Bhaban.
In the meeting, the recent train derailment occurred at Nangalkot in Cumilla, the programs taken by Bangladesh Railway on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr-2024, passenger services and ticket management, and the progress of construction of Dhirashram Container Depot were dis-cussed.
The parliamentary watchdog formed a sub-committee with its members Shafiqur Rahman as con-vener, Muhammad Saiful Islam and Nurun Nahar Begum as members to investigate as to why the construction work remains halted after the piling of the one-story building at Rajshahi railway sta-tion.
It asked the government to inform the committee in its next meeting about the latest progress in the equipment supply as per the contract signed with Shohoz.com over online ticketing system, and recommended completing the remaining works within the next two months.
The parliamentary committee recommended the government to come up in the next meeting with the updated information on the amount of railway land, leased land and how the lands are being used and who are using those.
Committee members Railways Minister Zillul Hakim, Shafiqul Islam Shimul, Saiful Islam, Shafiqur Rahman and Nurun Nahar Begum attended the meeting, said said a press release.
