The Bangladeshi vessel MV Abdullah, hijacked by Somali pirates with 23 crew members on board, has begun to move again on Friday (15 March) after anchoring at about 7 nautical miles away from the shore of Garacad, Somalia coast on Thursday (14 March).
The anchor of the vessel was lifted around 3:30 pm on Friday and started moving away from the previous location, said Md Mizanul Islam, media consultant of Kabir Group, which owns the ship.
The pirates might have deemed the previous spot unsafe and decided to relocate the vessel to a more secure location, he said, unable to confirm the ship’s last known location.
Earlier, the vessel dropped the anchor some seven nautical miles away from the shore of Garacad on Thursday.
However, none of the pirates had communicated with the ship owner till Friday evening.
