The law enforcers on Thursday claimed to have detained four passengers of a flight of US Bangla Airlines and recovered gold weighing 2.104 kg from their possessions at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The detainees Abdul Kadir, 41, Jewel Hossain, 34, Ibrahim Khalil, 40, and Khorshed Alam, 42, were passengers of the US Bangla Flight No. BS 342, said Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) Additional Superintendent of Police, Mohammad Ziaul Haque.
Based on available information, a joint team comprising the National Security Intelligence (NSI), Dhaka Customs, and APBn closely monitored a flight arriving from Dubai at the airport around 4:55 am on Wednesday.
The joint team during their operation detained the four passengers when they were coming out of the airport through its green channel, Ziaul Haque said.
During primary interrogation, the four passengers denied having gold under their possessions.
At one point, law enforcers recovered 316 grams of wet gold powder, one gold bar weighing 116 grams, and 94 grams of gold ornaments from each, he said.
A case under the Special Powers Act has been filed against the detained passengers with the Airport Police Station in this connection.
