ILO suggests further talks to amend labor law: Anisul

Staff Reporter:

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq yesterday said International Labor Organi-zation (ILO) has suggested for further discussions to amend labor law and not to rush in this regard.
“Yesterday, we discussed the matter of labor law amendment. The Ministry of Labor and Employment has informed me about bringing some fresh amendments. Apart from these, ILO too had requested us for giving some statements,” the minister said after his meeting with an ILO delegation at his ministry.
Led by ILO country director Tuomo Poutiainen, the other members of the delegation were ILO pro-gramme manager Neeran Ramjuthan, technical officer Chayanich Thamparipattra, senior program of-ficer Md Saidul Islam, and program officer Chowdhury Albab Kadir.
Ministry of Labour and Employment secretary Md Ehsan-e-Elahi, Law and Justice Division secretary Md Golam Sarwar and Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division secretary Hafiz Ahmed Chow-dhury, were present on the occasion, among others.
“Another four-member ILO team joined yesterday’s meeting virtually from Geneva. Almost all the sec-tions of labor law were discussed yesterday. We wanted to pass the labor law in the ongoing parliament session. But ILO suggested not to hurry and hold further discussions in this regard,” Anisul added.
The law minister further said discussion should be held with stakeholders also regarding some aspects of this act.
“So, we have reached two decisions. One is to hold this meeting again. In the meantime, a stakeholder facility meeting would be held under the initiative of ILO. The issues, where we have disagreements, will be discussed there,” he said.
